“Long - P&G or Pfizer?”

 

A Portfolio Manager asked Vox Pop to add value to his decision to go long on P&G (PG US) or Pfizer (PFE US). P&G had over 21 brands in recent polls. Individual brand Growth Factors in the Jul ‘09 poll revealed that 6 major brands had good 1+ Growth Factor scores, the majority of brands showed solid momentum and poor performing brands made a significantly smaller contribution to P&G.

Against this Pfizer is only mid-table in the Healthcare – ‘Makers’ subsector. The sector is led by GlaxoSmithKline who lead in both the US and UK polls with a company Growth Factor of 1.07 against Pfizer’s 0.64.

PG has since returned 19% and PFE 15% (12-18-09) vs S&P 500
